BS9999: 2017 gives recommendations and guidance on the design, management and use of buildings to achieve reasonable standards of fire safety for all people in and around them. It also provides guidance on the on-going management of fire safety within a building throughout its entire life cycle, including guidance for designers to ensure that the overall design of a building assists and enhances the management of fire safety.

In conjunction with BS9990: 2015 & BS9991: 2015 this provides a framework of service and maintenance requirements for fire safety in most types of buildings by competent personnel but not the specific standards for individual types of systems.

For Active Fire Barriers – Fire Curtains – BS8524-2: 2013 is the Code of Practice for maintenance. Automatic Smoke Curtains have EN12101-1: 2005+ A1: 2006

Smoke Extract Systems have BS7346-8: 2013 as well as elements of Approved Document B: 2006 as well as guidance within the BS9999: 2017 suite.

All smoke and fire safety systems, regardless of size, need regular maintenance and servicing. In addition, broken or damaged fire curtains can create significant inconvenience and additional expense particularly in retail or industrial building.

As part of a maintenance contract with Elite Fire Solutions, we offer a thorough testing programme for all smoke and fire curtains on a site. Work can be carried out during the evening to avoid disruption. We ensure all waste material is removed and that the site is left clean and tidy.

In the cases of broken or damaged fire curtains, we can also advise whether it is more economical to repair or replace the existing system.
